Joshua Yates

Senior Designer

Joshua has been working in Architecture in and around New York City for over 15 years. He has worked in scales ranging from objects, furniture and installations to single family homes, institutional renovations, commercial conversions & ground-up multi-family residential projects.

Initially drawn to architecture by his love of hand drafting and his curiosity for how things are made and stay together, he still carries those twin passions. Giving equal attention and respect to both the documentation and design process as well as the construction of those designs. This focus on craft extends to the spaces and environments he designs, believing that design is a dialogue between desire, need and gravity, projects should work to improve the lives of not only its inhabitants but the greater community.

Prior to joining DXA Studio in 2023, Joshua worked with S3 Architecture, MOS, MADE LLC and most recently lead his own practice, Center for Volume Control. He received his Bachelor of Architecture from The Pratt Institute in 2006. While at Pratt Joshua served as a studio teaching assistant, work at and managed the Fabrication shop and was a founding editor of and contributor to the Institute’s student lead journal, Tarp, which was the recipient of numerous grants from the Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Fine Arts.
