Mirwais graduated cum laude from Syracuse University with a Bachelor of Architecture and a minor in Geography. During his studies, he broadened his perspective through international programs in New York City and London, participating in an Advanced Urban Studio and a Historical Restoration Studio. These experiences deepened his commitment to design that is both contextually responsive and progressive.

Mirwais’s thesis concentrated on the design of an adaptive façade system based on auxetic methodologies. The work began with explorations in compliant mechanisms before shifting toward auxetic patterning, employing hinge-like nodes to enable controlled movement. This research addressed challenges of scalability and material performance, culminating in an umbrella-like activation system capable of expansion and contraction to regulate natural light with precision.

Mirwais joined the office in January 2025.
