Mirwais graduated cum laude from Syracuse University, with a Bachelor of Architecture accompanied by a minor in geography. In school, he took the opportunity to study abroad in New York City and London, where he took part in an Advanced Urban Studio and a Historical Restoration Studio, respectively. These experiences honed his appreciation for contextually responsive and forward-thinking design principles.
Mirwais’s thesis focused on designing and developing an adaptive façade system based on auxetic design methodologies. The project initially explored compliant mechanisms and later shifted towards employing auxetic patterns, using hinge-like points to enable dynamic response. This approach addressed challenges in scalability and material selection, ultimately resulting in an umbrella-like activation system capable of controlled expansion and contraction to manage natural light.
Mirwais joined the office in January 2025.
